Determination of arsenic compounds in earthworms
Article Abstract:
Correlations of arsenic content in earthworms and soil showed that total arsenic concentration in worms ranged from 3.2 to 17.9 mg/kg dry weight and 5.0 to 79.7 mg/kg dry weight in soils. Arsenic compounds identified in earthworms include arsenous acid, arsenic acid, arsenobetaine, dimethylarsinic acid and two species of dimethylarsinoylribosides. The presence of the dimethylarsenoylribosides was the first report of the presence of the compound in a terrestrial organism.

Immobilization mechanism of arsenic in waste solidified using cement and lime
Article Abstract:
Arsenic immobilization by mixing waste fly ash with cement and lime is found to be effective in reducing arsenic concentrations to levels as low as ca. 55 mg per liter from an initial 5 grams per liter. MINTEQA2 calculations show that the reduction in available arsenic was due to the formation of CaHAsO3 in the lecheate and that that a lower level cannot be achieved. Arsenic concentrations in waste fly ash may be as high as 23% to 47% of the material's weight.

Pressure to set controversial arsenic standard increases
Article Abstract:
Article about the EPA's overdue and certain-to-be-controversial standard for arsenic in drinking water that the agency will probably reveal by the end of this month. The EPA proposal is "significantly lower" than the existing standard of 50 parts per billion (ppb).
