Determination of organically bound sulfur in swamp and terrestial waters by continuous flow oxidation and ion chromatography
Article Abstract:
The amount of organically bound sulfur in swamp and terrestrial waters was studied in connection with rain acid research. Aqueous samples were mixed with hydrogen peroxide solution using a continuous flow system. The organosulfur moieties were oxidized to oxalate, carbon dioxide and sulfate. The ionic species were then separated and identified by means of automated ion chromatography. The amount of organically bounded sulfur was subsequently calculated by comparing the sulfate concentrations before and after oxidation. Results indicate that the proposed approach is very cost effective and is capable of handling 100 samples per day.

Determination of DNA-benzoapyrene adducts by high performance liquid chromatography with laser-induced fluorescence detection
Article Abstract:
The separation and detection of DNA-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons adducts by a laser-induced fluorescence detection method is discussed. Benzoapyrene was used as the model compound upon which, a reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography separated its adduct species. The practicality of this external standard method was demonstrated by the good reproducibilities derived from the progress of the study.

Passive ozone/oxidant sampler with coulometric determination using I2/Nylon-6 charge-transfer complex
Article Abstract:
Ozone/oxidants can be sampled using a device with a carbon paper collector coated with nylon-6 polymer and potassium iodide. The sampler has several layers of membrane filters, a spacer and Teflon meshes. Iodine is measured in the charge-transfer complex by use of constant-current coulometry. The sample requires no pretreatment.
