Focusing on the customer
Article Abstract:
Pitney Bowes Europe, which exports franking machines and mailing products, has reorganized its operations to center around its customers. The firm instituted Just-in-Time manufacturing as the first step towards improving customer relations. The manufacturing operation was then reorganized around a supply chain model. This was followed by the acquisition of computer systems to enhance the firm's productivity. The implementation of these systems were accomplished by a partnership between the firm's information technology workers and operations personnel.

Customer driven
Article Abstract:
Manufacturing managers should view their company as a link in a chain from raw materials to the final customer, which is entirely customer-driven. Logistics optimize the supply chain to maintain proper functioning and competitiveness. Macro-logistics controls the entire supply chain while micro-logistics caters to consumer service and partnership-sourcing. Every individual controlling the supply chain should be distinct from functional managers of the different organizational areas.
