Differential toxicity and environmental fates of hexachlorocyclohexane isomers
Article Abstract:
A review of hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) research showed that the different isomers of the compound have different bioaccumulation levels. HCH is one of the most widely used pesticide and its high volatility contributes to its fast transport. The beta isomer of HCH was found to be the most persistent, showing up in high concentrations in human fat, blood and breast milk samples, while the alpha and gamma isomers are persistent in soil, wate and air samples.

Modeling 1,3-dichloropropene fumigant volatilization with vapor-phase advection in the soil profile
Article Abstract:
The LEACHP simulation model was modified to describe volatile-phase transport and vapor-phase advection of 1,3-dichloropropene. Called LEACHV, the new model takes barometric pressure change air flow at the soil surface into account. The results showed that LEACHV is a promising technique for simulating volatile flux because of its sensitivity. However, its effectiveness for fine textured soils may be limited because of its one-dimensional nature.

Relationships between socioeconomic indicators and concentrations of organochlorine pesticides in tree bark
Article Abstract:
A study that evaluated the correlation between a country's economic condition and the amount of pesticides present in tree bark showed a direct relationship between pesticide use and high economic standing. Pesticides, such as hexachlorobenzene, trans-nonachlor and dieldrin were found in direct relationship with a country's Gross National Product per person and Human Development Index.
