Union of Concerned Scientists' director of agricultural and biotechnology program Margaret Mellon states that she is not opposed to biotechnology in drug manufacture. But in agriculture the benefits have not been shown to outweigh the risks. The fundamental need for new biotechnology foods in the U.S. has not been demonstrated because more food is produced than we need.
