Effect of particle concentration and fixation on radiocesium sorption
Article Abstract:
Radiocesium sorption and desorption in the solid and liquid phases under conditions of controlled ionic composition were investigated. The experiments showed that radiocesium sorption in the liquid phase is affected by particle concentration. The apparent effect of particle concentration was attributed to the irreversibility of cesium desorption behavior. An equilibrium model illustrating the irreversibility and particle concentration effects on cesium desorption is presented.1

Uptake of metals on peat moss: an ion-exchange process
Article Abstract:
Peat moss (PM) has been suggested as an efficient sorbant which can remove heavy metals from water. An ion-exchange study using a calcium-loaded column of PM has shown that PM's high metal capacity enables it to separate heavy metal species in solution or sorbed on the solid phase. This characteristic was supported by ion-exchange equilibrium constants for different metals in solution.

Amine-algae interactions: cation exchange and possible hydrogen bonding
Article Abstract:
Amine sorption on algae occurs via cation exchange in an acidic environment. Adsorption equilibrium constants were calculated in a study of diamine, amino acid and monoamine sorption on the algae Vaucheria. The displacement of Ca,Mg indicated the extent of sorption. Additionally, hydrogen bonding to anions may explain neutral ethylenediamine sorption on algae.
