Elastic response of flexible polyurethane foams in uniaxial tension
Article Abstract:
The uniaxial tensile data of two distinct flexible polyurethane foams are presented, and the relationships between the elastic properties and major stretch ratio of these foams help in making the constitutive models for flexible compressible materials. Polyurethane foams are non-linear elastic compressible materials used for cushioning, shock absorption, and noise suppression. In these foams, the minor stretch ratio, elastic modulus, and the Poisson's ratio are non-linear functions of the major stretch ratio. The volume alters with increasing values of the major stretch ratio.

Stresses induced in fiber-reinforced tubes due to changes in temperature and moisture
Article Abstract:
A new method for determining temperature- and moisture-induced stresses in fiber-reinforced tubes is presented. The method uses an orthotropic hygrothermal stress solution to create formulas for tubes with an arbitrary number of layups and composed of any ply orientations. It reduces the anisotropic form of the stress-strain relations to orthotropic solutions by identifying some of the zero terms. These relations are then solved analytically by means of compatibility and equilibrium equations and by satisfying the boundary conditions.

Polymeric composite tube fabrication
Article Abstract:
A modified version of the simultaneous pressure and vacuum method has been developed for fabricating polymeric composite tubes. The method uses an aluminum mold to apply pressure uniformly over the inner surface of a composite tube. A constant vacuum is also applied to the material throughout the fabrication process. The proposed method has been used in the fabrication of E-Glass and graphite epoxy composite tubes of exceptional quality.
