Experience counts
Article Abstract:
A team of researchers at the Centre for Intelligent Systems at the University of Wales in Aberystwyth are finding success in embodying the expertise underlying some complicated manufacturing processes in computer systems. They have developed a program for aluminum pressure die-casting that selects the combination of temperatures, pressures and machine settings that will yield the best results in a given instance. It uses case-based reasoning to simplify decision making and provide production workers with an optimum solution.
