Exploiting opportunities for pollution prevention in EPA enforcement agreements
Article Abstract:
The EPA issued the Pollution Prevention Action Plan to encourage more companies to enforce its pollution prevention regulations and reduce the number of violations against the environment. The plan consists of two policies which provide options on how agencies and companies can integrate pollution prevention with compliance requirements. Among the different options proposed by agencies, supplemental environemntal projects were the most effective approach towards pollution prevention because they reduced the severity of penalties imposed for non-compliance.

Trace elements in two pulverized coal-fired power stations
Article Abstract:
The study examines trace elements--arsenic, cadmium, mercury, nickel, lead, selenium, vanadium, and zinc--that are released during coal combustion. Particle capture mechanisms catch the particluate arsenic, cadmium, nickel, lead, vanadium, and zinc, while flue gas scrubber solutions capture nonvolatile trace elements. Graphs and tables illustrate the findings of the study.

Science behind controversial particulate studies vindicated
Article Abstract:
The U.S. Environmental Agency's proposal to regulate particulate matter(PM) emission is based largely from two scientific studies that presented the health hazards of PM. Researchers from the University of Ottawa, Canada, reanalyzed the data from the previous data and was able to show that long-term exposure to PM can indeed cause premature death in sensitive populations.
