Explosive evolution in Tertiary birds and animals

Article Abstract:

A new model of bird evolution hypothesizes that diverse Mesozoic bird types suffered a mass extinction in the late Cretaceous, with relatively few surviving into the Tertiary and exploding into all modern bird lineages in only 10 million years. Fossil evidence in support of this model is outlined.
