Andrew J. Wiles has finished his proof of Pierre de Fermat's theorem, and mathematicians who have examined it concur that it is definitive. The proof is contained in Wiles' 'Modular Elliptic Curves and Fermat's Last Theorem' and 'Ring Theoretic Properties of Certain Hecke Algebras.'

Calculating with DNA; genetic material solves mathematical problems

Computer scientists are currently looking into the possibility of using biochemicals for solving highly complex mathematical problems. The technique involves the use of DNA base pairs for representing data. Although the technique is still untested, many believe it could work.
