Geared for growth
Article Abstract:
Total production in the UK gear industry rose by 8% in 1994 over 1993 levels for all types of mechanical transmission products including clutches and brakes according to a report by the Industry Research Group, but fund shortage have harmed the R&D process. The report indicates that the industry depended on traditional customers and past reputation and has paid less attention to foreign markets. Some research projects are in progress in the areas of worm gears, improving the performance of gear winding wheels and in spline design and optimization technology.
