Article Abstract:
The Wellcome Trust Genome Campus began when the UK Medical Research Council enlisted Wellcome's help to keep premier genome researcher John Sulston from going to the US. Sulston now heads the campus' Sanger Centre. The Trust has also assumed leadership of the human genome sequencing program.

Thirty years of secretive research on the effects of long-term radiation exposure on people living near a Russian nuclear-weapons plant have finally been revealed. Mira Kossenko's team's dose-response studies of cancer are invaluable for assessing doses lower than in atomic-bomb studies.

AIDS expert charged in HIV-blood case

AIDS expert Jean-Baptiste Brunet has been charged with 'complicity in poisoning' in the 1980s contamination of French blood banks with HIV. Researchers are organizing in support of Brunet and calling for the end of further prosecutions in the case.
