High-affinity potassium uptake in plants
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that Na+ is not necessary for wheat roots to absorb high-affinity K+, which suggests that HKT1 probably does not comprise the major transport system responsible for the uptake. It is more likely that H+-coupled transport mediates the main pathway for high-affinity K+ absorption from the soil by wheat.

A rising StAR: an essential role in cholesterol transport
Article Abstract:
Partial confirmation that StAR plays a key part in cholesterol transfer across mitochondrial membranes can be found in Dong Lin et al's research on steroidogenesis in cells affected by congenital adrenal hyerplasia. Much remains to be discovered about StAR's localization and functions.

An intelligent channel (and more)
Article Abstract:
Maltoporins form a type of pore in the external protective membrane of Escheri coli and other Gram-negative bacteria. A structural model detailing their function in cell transport is presented and discussed.
