Honda's light, bright CRV

The new CRV is Honda's first entry into the sport-utility vehicle market. It offers passengers a smoother ride with its independent upper and lower A-arm suspension. The vehicle is light, spacious and equipped with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder aluminum engine. The base price if under $20,000.

Airbags: a softer stop

A new federal directive requires cars to have depowered airbags. Depowered airbags inflate with less force than conventional airbags. Depowered airbags reduce the potential danger to passengers who may be too close to the airbag when it deploys in an accident.
