How can HIV replication be controlled?
Article Abstract:
Scientists believe that if they can learn to keep the HIV virus from proliferating within the person's system, they can delay AIDS symptoms to the point that AIDS could be treated as a chronic, but manageable disease. Approaches under study to control HIV virus reproduction are discussed.

NIAID will permit information about only one early vaccine strategy to be presented at the 8th Annual Conference on Advances In AIDS Vaccine Development. Organizers claim that there are no other strategies that produced significant enough clinical results.

A research tem led by Edward Berger has discovered a membrane they call fusin that is apparently a cofactor in HIV infection. Fusin facilitates infection by allowing cells to fuse with the surface of HIV.
