Hydrogen isotope fractionation during methanogenic degradation of toluene: potential for direct verification of bioremediation
Article Abstract:
This study of toluene for delta(super 2) H isotopic composition seeks a new technique with the potential of offering a direct indication of biodegradation of organic contaminants, such as groundwater pollutants. The study's analytical approach involves an equilibrium headspace analysis of the toluene for the specified isotope composition via spectrometry. The study and its results are described.

Variability in carbon isotopic fractionation during biodegradation of chlorinated ethenes: Implications for field applications
Article Abstract:
Authors investigated contaminant degradation, in this case chlorinated ethenes, to better understand water remediation possibilities. Despite variation in results of similar experiments, isotopic fractionation remains an excellent way to measure pollutant breakdown. Figures and tables illustrate results.
