State-of-the-art chamber facility for studying atmospheric aerosol chemistry
Article Abstract:
Two FEP Teflon film chambers are used to study atmospheric aerosol formation from a single compound, or a mixture, at varying humidities and dark or light situations. Drawings of the chambers and processes accompany an explanation of the measuring techniques.

Gas/particle partitioning and secondary organic aerosol yields
Article Abstract:
Secondary organic aerosol formation is analyzed in a gas/particle partitioning absorption model based on using experimentally determined fractional aerosol yields, which are a function of aerosol mass concentration for a given reactive organic gas (ROG). An absorption equilibrium constant represents the amount of saturation concentrations which partition into the condensed organic phase. The application of the model to over 30 ROG photooxidation smog chamber experiments is presented.

Identification of products containing -COOH, -OH, -C=O in atmospheric oxidation of hydrocarbons
Article Abstract:
Identification of products containing -COOH, -OH and -C=O in oxidizing hydrocarbons may be done through a derivative method using PFBHA and BSTFA. Identification is usually difficult because these products are highly polarized and they exist oftentimes in trace amounts. The method yields derivatives that are easily resolved through a GC column while allowing for unambiguous determination of molecular weights.
