Impact of biodiesel source material and chemical structure on emissions of criteria pollutants from a heavy-duty engine
Article Abstract:
This study researches biodiesels made from many feedstocks, including fatty acid methyl and ethyl esters, and the impact on the emissions performance of heavy-duty truck engines. Biodiesel is described as an oxygenated diesel fuel manufactured from vegetable oils and animal fats.

Effect of several oxygenates on regulated emissions from heavy-duty diesel engines
Article Abstract:
Three oxygenated fuel additives for diesel engines were tested to determine their ability to reduce NOx emissions. The fuel additive octanol was found to decrease NOx emission, while methyl esters of soybeans were found to increase NOx emissions by 2% to 3%. The fuel additive decanoic acid was found not to alter NOx emission of the engine. The ability of octanol and methyl soy ester to influence NOx emission lies in their ability to influence fuel droplet size and viscosity.
