Impact of sediment-bound iron on redox buffering in a landfill leachate polluted aquifer (Vejen, Denmark)
Article Abstract:
Various methods for characterizing reactive pools of iron found in soils and aquifer sediments were applied to samples gathered from a leachate plume at a landfill in Vejen, Denmark. Results revealed that reduced iron oxides on the sediment act as important buffers against the entering leachate in polluted aquifers. However, the presence of reduced precipitates may result in a growth in aquifer oxygen requirements, which will certainly influence bioremediation.

Henry's law constant for trichloroethylene between 10 and 95 degrees Celcius
Article Abstract:
The determination of the Henry's law constant for trichloroethylene between 10 and 95 degrees Celcius was done using a modification of the Equilibrium Partitioning in Closed System procedure and the column generator technique. These yielded data on aqueous solubility as well as vapor pressure from which the constant could be derived. The derived constant for trichloroethylene was shown to incrase by a factor of 20 between 10 and 95 degrees Celcius.

H2 concentrations in a landfill leachate plume (Grindsted, Denmark): in situ energetics of terminal electron acceptor processes
Article Abstract:
H2 concentrations in the Grindsted Landfill in Denmark ranged from 0.004 to 0.88 nM. An alternative partial equilibrium approach of combining the measured H2 and the terminal electron-accepting processes (TEAPs) into an actual potential in situ energy yield proves useful in explaining the occurrence of concomitant TEAPs. Fe reduction was found to be the most dominant TEAP, but concomitant methanogenesis and sulfate reduction were observed as well.
