India's energy future may see rise of nuclear
Article Abstract:
India's market-based economic reforms and the rising energy needs are likely to create opportunities for building nuclear power. Improper functioning of other energy channels, significant losses from the national grid, and intense opposition to hydroelectric projects signify the urgent need for alternative nuclear power development. Reforms have ensured the entry of foreign investment and that, coupled with the country's natural advantages, should make it possible for the atomic sector to supply about one third of the country's energy needs.

Russian atomic energy reaches critical mass
Article Abstract:
A dwindling economy and inadequate facilities at nuclear plants have put the future of Russian atomic energy production in doubt. Nuclear industry is owed several millions of dollars by consumers and the lack of financial resources threatens to pull down Russian nuclear research. Absence of adequate protection at the nuclear sites presents a grave threat to human and environment safety. Malfunctioning in the systems have resulted in heavy financial and material losses.
