Innovation index and its implications on organizational performance: a study of Australian manufacturing companies
Article Abstract:
Evidence from best practice firms in Australia suggests that innovation is not a crucial factor in business success. According to data obtained from 237 Australian manufacturers that participated in the 1991 and 1992 Best Practice programs launched by the Australian Manufacturing Council and the Dept of Industrial Relations, firms need not be high innovators to perform well. Innovation exerts a greater and substantial effect on intermediate measures of organizational performance rather than on financial performance, implying that financial performance is influenced by factors other than innovation.
