Interaction of phase transformation and diffusion in steels
Article Abstract:
Theoretical description and numerical evaluation of the time dependent chemical driving force in low-alloy Fe-C-Mn steel grades is a prerequisite to study the gamma/alpha-phase transformation in the ternary system. The evolution of the chemical driving force in the Fe-C-Mn system is derived assuming negligible diffusion of the substantially dissolved components.

Measurement of thickness-average residual stress near the edge of a thin laser peened strip
Article Abstract:
The measurements of the thickness-average residual stress imposed by laser peening near the edge of a thin sheet of a common titanium alloy are presented. Residual stress was found to be large and compressive near the edge of the sheet, with the compressive stress extending over 38% of the laser peened area.
