Kinetics and mechanism of the degradation and mineralization of acetone in dilute aqueous solution sensitized by the UV photolysis of hydrogen peroxide
Article Abstract:
A kinetic model of the degradation and mineralization of acetone that generates a profile of reactants and intermediates is proposed to explain why its treatment by the UV/H2O2 process is slow. Acetone is found to treat slowly since intermediates build up to a level where they compete for hydroxyl radicals and since the mechanism seems to involve some amount of acetone recycling.
