Recent improvements in controlling health problems caused by lifestyles may be ending. The major lifestyle diseases, coronary heart disease, stroke, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease diabetes and colon cancer caused 43% of all deaths in 1998. The rise of obesity and stabilization of smoking habits suggests slower decline in future mortality rates.

Article Abstract:
The Economic Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture has rated each country in the adjoining 48 states on the basis of six measures, which includes January temperature and topographic variation. The map, which summarizes the ratings, reveals that the western states and southern Florida are at the top of the scale scoring well on most amenities.

Voter Turnout

Voter turnout has declined from the high of almost 90% in the 1880's, when only white men could vote, through the 1990's with only 40% turnout.
