Major considerations in the corporate development of R&D strategies within Australian technology-based firms
Article Abstract:
Consistency with customer demands, a competitive corporate approach and the competitive market environment are deemed essential by Australian research and development managers in strategic research decision making, says a study on major considerations in corporate research decision making in the country. Australian research managers likewise believe that present technological patterns and a firm's resources and capability should be considered in the decision. Meanwhile, a set of hypotheses are also examined by way of analyzing the results gathered from 111 technology-based firms with research and development activities.

Towards a fourth generation R&D management model-research networks in knowledge management

A fourth generation approach to research management is presented. The technique, described as the generation of intellectual capital aimed at developing future businesses and creating new products, involves the management of technological dependencies, complementary skills and the transfer of knowledge via research links. The study cites the research management practices employed by pharmaceutical and biotechnology research groups in industries and universities as prime examples of the fourth generation approach.

The impact of generic competitive strategies on corporate R&D: an empirical study in Japan
Article Abstract:
Cost leadership and differentiation have significant effect on corporate research and development as reflected on a study of 85 firms in Japan. It has also been found that Japanese management focuses on the overall differentiation citing that the approach allows firms to meet the growing demand of customers from different sectors in the market. Consistency with a company's competitive approach is also deemed to be vital in strategic research management.
