Manhattan post office engulfs a whole city block
Article Abstract:
The US Postal Service's new Manhattan building will house the city's centralized mail-processing operations to improve its postal service. The General Mail Facility will contain three storeys plus two levels of underground parking facilities. Lockwood-Greene, NY, which designed the structure, will also reinforce the existing Morgan Mail Station for future high-rise expansion. The project entails the use of a big construction crew and huge equipment and is on schedule despite its magnitude.

Accessing Atlantic City
Article Abstract:
The construction team building the Atlantic City Convention Center in New Jersey is faced with the task of erecting a rail terminal over stratified soil layers. Structural design also requires soil stabilization and the construction of slurry walls and groundwater monitoring systems. Geotechnical studies are used to assess the impact of groundwater flow on pile design and installation. Existing soil conditions led to the selection of closed-end steel piles for the project.
