Arousal: revisiting the reticular activating system
Article Abstract:
Control of mental alertness had been postulated to originate in the upper brainstem and send to the cerebral cortex through synaptic relays by way of the thalamus. Two recent studies have pinpointed the pathway and described the effect on cortex excitability.

Mapping the sensory mosaic
Article Abstract:
The whole sensory cortex is a mosaic of maps of sensory space that are dynamic. Longterm changes can result in these maps when changes in sensory input from traumas or physical routines occur. The influence of the basal forebrain on sensory maps is discussed.

Revisiting the fluid mosaic model of membranes
Article Abstract:
Cell membrane proteins do not exactly fit the random two-dimensional fluid mosaic model, first suggested in 1972. The model is updated by using fluorescence recovery after bleaching (FRAP), single-particle tracking (SPT) and the optical laser trap.
