Metal casting
Article Abstract:
Machine parts formed from castings of alloys and composite materials, using simulation technologies, are lighter, stronger and more durable than traditional forged or fabricated parts. Computer simulations and Computer-aided design analyze the casting process while computer-aided manufacturing develops the accurate casts. Graphite irons and alloys of iron, steel and aluminium can be integrated to specific requirements. The use of squeeze casting, semi-solid casting, airset sand bond systems are discussed along with waste-management techniques.

Casting vote
Article Abstract:
Low-pressure diecasting of aluminum machine parts using permanent dies enhances the quality of the component and solves problems arising from complex component structures. The method provides control over the metal density, homogeneity, solidification and dimension of the components. The component surfaces become clean and free from agents inhibiting paint adhesion, and surface blemishes are minimized. This method is cost effective and superior to the process using sand molds.

A modern approach
Article Abstract:
Computer-aided solid-modelling is a new tool being used by engineers and industrial designers to help them understand the geometry of the products they are developing. The new technology requires changes to working methodology and to the relationships between engineers and designers. Most importantly, a collaborative, space sharing approach must replace sequential working practices.
