A predictive tool for delaying wrinkling and tearing failures in sheet metal forming
Article Abstract:
An advanced forming technology, Variable Binder Force (VBF), was developed for modeling wrinkling and tearing failures in conical and square cup sheet metal forming processes. The model was proven to accurately predict the limiting cup forming diagrams. A VBF trajectory was then designed based on the wrinkling and tearing of the sheet. The VBF trajectory has been experimentally proven to increase cup forming height by 16% over the best known forming method.

Creep-induced cleavage fracture in WIPP salt under indirect tension
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the occurrence of cleavage fracture in rock salt under concurrent creep using the Brazilian indirect tension test technique. The rock salt was taken from the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in New Mexico. Results have shown that cleavage cracks in salt appear when tensile strength is greater than the tensile stress. Moreover, cleavage fracture starts at the peak of the ductile deformation process and micromechanical damage accumulation.
