National Park Service burdened by politics
Article Abstract:
Political pressures have undermined the effectiveness of the National Park Service. The proposed National Park System Reform Act of 1995, for instance, would lead to the closure of national parks deemed unprofitable and shift the management of certain parks to other agencies. Republican Congressman have also opposed bills to increase fees paid by concessionaires in national parks and restrict access to Yellowstone's geothermal resources.

Paradise lost in U.S. parks?
Article Abstract:
Several problems have plagued the U.S. National Park Service in recent years. Water and air pollution and nearby developments could eventually threaten a park's ecology. The fate of National Park Service policies and programs are at the mercy of politicians while funding is another problem with the government's failure to increase funds to improve park services despite the 30% rise in total visitors since the 1980s.

Protecting nation's parks through 'corporatizing.'
Article Abstract:
The problems faced by national parks such as insufficient funding and deteriorating facilities and services could be resolved through 'corporatizing.' The term means giving park managers incentives to improve their services and facilities. This also includes allowing park managers to retain a portion of the fees they collect, implement rate increases and raise funds through donations and research missions.
