Native American office established at EPA
Article Abstract:
The EPA has established an American Indian Environmental Office (AIEO) to facilitate the cooperation and interaction of native Americans with the EPA in implementing its various programs. The AIEO is headed by Dir. Terry R. Williams, a member of northern Washington's Tulalip tribe well known for its skills in watershed mapping and management programs. The EPA Office of Water houses the AIEO staff of six. Another 15 staff members will be hired to work in EPA regional offices.

EPA readies study of future costs, benefits of implementing 1990 Clean Air Act
Article Abstract:
The Environmental Protection Agency is set to release in Feb 1997 the preliminary results of a forecast of the costs and benefits of the Clean Air Act Amendment of 1990 for the years 2000 and 2010. The results, especially its comparison with a retrospective study of the costs and benefits of the law's implementation from 1970 to 1990, is likely to influence the discussion of the recent proposal to make the standards on particulate matter and ozone levels more stringent.

Pediatrician named EPA children's environmental health adviser
Article Abstract:
Pediatrician Philip Landrigan has been appointed to the post of senior adviser for children's health at the EPA. Landrigan's position allows him to align EPA's research and policy decisions towards children's health. Landrigan landed the position for his research and stewardship of the National Academy of Science committee that produced the 'Pesticides in the Diets of Infants and Children' report in 1993.
