The harlequin duck is facing extinction due its relatively low productive rate and other factors that increase its susceptibility. These include fluctuating water levels and temperatures in the nesting rivers which decrease the food supply and cause high rates of non-breeding.

The deltoid balsamroot is a native plant of North America, where it can be found from Vancouver Island all the way south to the mountain slopes of California. Although still found in abundance in the United States, the Canadian flower has been designated as endangered.

The observed decreasing population of Nuttall's cottontail rabbit in British Columbia is attributed to habitat destruction. Urbanization and land development has destroyed the rabbit's habitat, which consists of thick stands of sagebrush.
