Occurrence of pesticides in shallow groundwater of the United States: initial results from the National Water-Quality Assessment Program
Article Abstract:
Results from studies conducted during 1993 to 1995 for the National Water-Quality Assessment Program revealed that pesticides commonly occur in shallow groundwater. Generally low pesticide concentrations at concentrations less than 1 microng/L were detected at more than half of the 1,034 sites sampled. Thirty-nine pesticide compounds, most notably atrazine, deethylatrazine, simazine, metolachlor and prometon, were detected out of the 46 compounds examined.

Occurrence of the pharmaceutical drug clofibric acid and the herbicide mecoprop in various Swiss lakes and in the North Sea
Article Abstract:
Pharmaceutical compounds such as clofibric acid (CA) was found to come from populated areas around the Swiss lakes and in the North Sea in the low nanograms per liter range. CA appears to be more persistent than the herbicide mecoprop (MCPP) as evidenced by the changed relative concentratios of CA and MCPP in the North Sea when compared to those detected in the lakes and the production figures obtained.

Occurrence and fate of the pharmaceutical drug diclofenac in surface waters: rapid photodegradation in a lake
Article Abstract:
The rivers and lakes of Switzerland have the pharmaceutical drug diclofenac in them through human medical use disposed of by wastewater treatment plants. Over 90% of the drug is eliminated in the bodies of water through photolytic degradation. The drug was not found in the sediments of the bodies of water.
