Article Abstract:
Railway technology has continued to develop, with the greatest progression being seen in signalling and train control. There has been a move towards block systems and away from fixed block lineside signalling and the new European Train Control system has been developed as the result of a need to integrate railway systems in Europe. Future developments are likely to include high-speed tilting trains, mixed mode freight transport, and state-of-the art signalling and train control.

Article Abstract:
Computer networking technology has developed over many years into two main types: the Local Area Network (LAN) and the Wide Area Network (LAN). The new generation of network architecture supports distributed computing and has led to the introduction of specialist transmitting devices such as routers and bridges. An overview of LAN and WAN technology is presented in further detail.
