Passive Ozone Network of Dallas: A modeling opportunity with community involvement. 1
Article Abstract:
Article describes the Passive Ozone Network of Dallas (POND), a network of citizen volunteers under the direction of the Environmental Protection Agency. In 1998 for 8 weeks, POND monitored and recorded ozone levels in 16 counties in and around Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. The success of POND indicates that such citizen groups can help government agencies gather information vital for setting air quality standards and programs.

Development and evaluation of a small active ozone sampler
Article Abstract:
The Harvard active ozone sampler could prove useful in monitoring ambient and microenvironmental ozone. The new and small active sampler, which uses a single etched glass denuder as the collection substrate to react with ozone and produce nitrate, gave very accurate and precise measurements under laboratory and ambient conditions for sampling period from 1 to 60 h. It compares favorably well with the widely-used Timed Exposure Diffusion sampler.

Time-variability of NOx emissions from Portland cement kilns
Article Abstract:
The current statistical analysis methods for tracking emissions from Portland cement companies results in inaccurate data. Researchers took measurements from cement factories run by California Portland Cement, Riverside Cement Co., Lone Star Industries Inc., Dragon Products Co., and St. Lawrence Corp. These plants represent a broad spectrum of facilities and manufacturing methods within the cement industry. They all, however, demonstrate variable rates of nitrogen oxide. Researchers applied various mathematical evaluation methods and concluded that autocorrection should not be used independently. Time series analysis also shows that values of nitrogen oxide discharges averaged over a short period of time does not provide accurate information.
