Patent award stirs controversy
Article Abstract:
Many researchers are angered that the National Institutes of Health awarded Gene Therapy Inc exclusive rights to the patent for the most common type of gene therapy, ex vivo gene therapy. Researchers who helped develop the therapy were excluded from the patent.

Annual genetics meeting: some puzzles, some answers

One research find announced at the 1995 American Society of Human Genetics meeting was the discovery of the genetic defect that causes myotonic dystrophy. Another was the discovery that the gene responsible for Apert's syndrome comes from the father.

Discovery of AT gene sparks biomedical research bonanza
Article Abstract:
Researchers led by geneticist Yosef Shiloh have identified a gene that when defective causes ataxia telangiectasia or breast cancer. The gene may play a role in detecting DNA damage and blocking cell growth until the damage is repaired.
