Performance evaluation of a thermal desorption/gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric method for the characterization of waste tank headspace samples
Article Abstract:
A thermal desorption/gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric method was used to characterize volatile organic compounds in 305 headspace samples from 48 underground nuclear waste storage tanks. The samples of headspace gases were taken from waste tanks at the Dept. of Energy's Hanford site in Richland, WA. All samples exhibited desorption efficiencies greater than 82%. Twenty three out of the 25 analytes had reproducibility values less than 24% near the method detection levels.
