Phytoremediation of organics moving rapidly into field trials
Article Abstract:
The EPA's Technology Innovation Office has recommended partnerships between the public and the private sector for evaluating the efficacy of phytoremediation technologies of organics and hydrocarbons. A number of chemical and petroleum firms are considering the offer as greenhouse and laboratory tests have proven the effectiveness of methods for removing organics. Field trials of phytoremediation of nonhydrophobic contaminants have yielded favorable results, but phytoremediation of nonhydrophobic contaminants have not been as successful.

Effects of physical chemistry and bioturbation by estuarine macrofauna on the transport of hydrophobic organic contaminants in the benthos
Article Abstract:
Estuarine macrofauna has an effect on hydrophobic organic contaminant (HOC) transport in aquatic environments, according to research that studied HOC transport in the summer and the winter seasons. The primary effect during the summer was to cause the significant loss of BaP and TCB, but during the winter, loss of HOC was not enhanced. Direct particle resuspension is thought to be the reason for the enhanced loss of HOC materials during the summer tests.

Uncertainties in incremental reactivities of volatile organic compounds
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the uncertainties in the reactivities of selected organic compounds areas of ozone formation. First-order uncertainty analysis of the reactivities was conducted to identify the rate parameters which influence them, followed by Monte Carlo analysis to determine the sets of rate parameter values. Results showed that uncertainties exert influence in certain reactions such as formation of NO2, O3 and HNO3.
