Trace Analysis of Fragrance Materials in Wastewater and Treated Wastewater
Article Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to develop a method to measure trace levels of fragrance materials[FM] in wastewater and treated waste water. FMs go down the drain and end up in water or sludge. Sixteen FMs were selected and introduced into an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant and a trickling filter wastewater treatment plant. Influent and effluent samples were collected in two sites on an hourly basis for 3 days. FM removal ranged from 80 to 99.9% upon secondary treatment, The activated sludge plant had the highest rate of removal.

Dechlorination of carbon tetrachloride by Fe(II) associated with goethite
Article Abstract:
This study examines the possibility that nondechlorinating microorganisms can contribute to the transformation of carbon tetrachloride (CT) in Fe(III)-bearing minerals such as goethite. In several experiments, Fe(III)-reducing bacterium Shewanella Alga, strain BrY, dechlorinated CT was used to from biogenic Fe(II) by means of enzymatic reduction of goethite. Chloroform was formed when the CT was degraded by abiotic and biogentic Fe(II) on goethite.
