Predicting CADCAM's future
Article Abstract:
CADCAM is driven by technology and the growth of new supply industries and there has been major growth in CAD used on desk top PCs, and now there is growth in its use in engineering workstations. Image processing is one of the newest technologies and is entering the process of managing and transmitting engineering information. The use of such design stations is becoming an integral part of the whole product design and development process. 3D modelling has seen major advances over the past five years and is now much faster reducing the time to market.

Where now for AutoCAD?
Article Abstract:
AutoCAD was originally popular because it was readily available, it provided upgrade PC facilities, it could be customised and it was well promoted. It is used by designers and engineers in architecture, mapping and planning. Autodesk, the inventors of AutoCAD, are focusing on visualisation technology, virtualy reality and multi media applications, but further engineering applications are now mainly with the software industry. AutoCAD's basic facilities will probably be improved on, especialy in the 3D modelling area.

CADCAM on the catwalk
Article Abstract:
CADCAM techniques is useful in the fashion industry because of the high design content and short life span of fashion garments. Designers can immediately show clients a style on screen and make any changes there and then rather than by hand, which would take much more time. CAD can manipulate colour reduction and can also produce colour separations. Companies using CAD include Courtaulds Leisurewear and Guy Birkin & Co of Nottingham, lace maker.
