Distant look at pollution
Article Abstract:
Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) interferometers and ultraviolet differential optical absorption spectrometers (UV-DOAS) detect pollutants as effectively, but more quickly and in a wider area, than standard point-samplers. The Houston Regional Monitoring Corp, using equipment from Radian Corp came to this conclusion after testing an FT-IR and a UV-DOAS for three months at an Exxon Corp plant in Baytown, TX. However, these devices would only complement, not replace, point-samplers, according to Radian project manager Robert Spellicy.

AutoCAD's fast 14 earns user kudos
Article Abstract:
Autodesk launched Release 14 of its AUTOCAD software on May 9, 1997. Software enhancements include an autosnaps feature that reduces drawing time and the Learning Assistant on-line help system. However, the software cannot access multiple files in one session, fails to offer improved 3D capabilities and dynamic dimensions which follow changes in drawings. The software runs on Windows operating systems and costs $3,750.
