Quantitation reference compounds and VOC recoveries from soils by purge-and-trap GC/MS
Article Abstract:
The quantitation reference compounds (QRC) approach proved useful in determining the volatile organic compound (VOC) losses during VOC determination. The QRC approah tries to measure VOC losses by directly injecting the QRCs onto the soil matrix and account for any matrix effects and losses during sample collection to actual analysis. Target compound relative recoveries of 93% to 105% were achieved on three spiked soil samples and one unprocessed spiked sample through the QRC approach.

Process features and laboratory experiments
Article Abstract:
Mixed region vapor stripping is a disruption method that combines soil mixing and gas-phase stripping processes to remove mobile contaminants. The process has been applied for in situ treatment of volatile organic compound- contaminated (VOCs) fine-grained deposits. The process showed a high level of efficiency at more than 90% in removing VOCs such as trichloroethene despite low airflow conditions.

Ozone reactive chemistry on interior latex paint
Article Abstract:
The reaction of ozone with four different interior latex paint samples was investigated. The results showed that exposure of interior latex paint to ozone and clean air produced several types of polar volatile organic compounds, including carbonyls and organic acids. Formic and acetic acids did not originate from ozone reactions. The rate of off-gassing was directly proportional to the humidity.
