Senior Scientist Thomas B. Cochran of the Natural Resources Defense Council is on a campaign to lessen America's reliance on nuclear weapons. Cochran's strategy involves illustration of the effects of different war scenarios so as to provide information on ways of aiming new arsenal campaigns.

The discovery of hominid fossils and primitive tools at Atapuerca, Spain, lends new evidence to support the theory of Carl Swisher and Garnis Curtis, which proposes that Homo erectus evolved in Asia rather than in Africa. The artifacts are believed to be at least 780,000 years old.
