Riboflavin tetraacetate: a potentially useful photosensitizing agent for the treatment of contaminated waters
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that photochemical processes - whether induced by sunlight or by actinic radiation - can effectively degrade wastewater contaminants. One University of Illinois study of the effect of ring substituents on photolysis rates found tetraacetylriboflavin (RTA) to be an especially effective photosensitizer, compared to riboflavin and anilines. Study results indicate that RTA might be a potentially useful catalyst for water pollution remediation. Experimental procedures and results are described in detail.

Influences of natural dissolved organic matter on the interaction of aluminum with the microalga Chlorella: a test of the free-ion model of trae metal toxicity
Article Abstract:
Fulvic acid interacts with the algal surface and acts as a source of phosphorus to P-deficient algae. This was gleaned from the results of an experiment to test the assumption under the free-ion model that the sole function of dissolved organic matter is to complex metals in solution. The model's applicability to the toxicity of aluminum to the green alga Chlorella pyrenoidosa in the presence of a soil fulvic acid was tested in defined media designed to restrict Al intercations to algae and soil fulvic acid.
