SQUID NDE apparatus and magnetic calibration to detect degradation in duplex stainless steel
Article Abstract:
The Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) is a low frequency transducer that detects magnetic field variations. When it is linked to a superconducting coil it could measure small changes in stable DC magnetic fields. This gives the SQUID system a better signal-to-noise ratio than conventional magnetometers used in non-destructive evaluation. SQUID is used in determining the thermal aging of Duplex steel rods by measuring the residual magnetization. The measurements can be done at a distance of 200 mm from the specimen and could also be used in the in-situ non-destructive evaluation of Duplex steel.

A comparative study of the creep rupture properties of type 316 stainless steel base and weld metals
Article Abstract:
The creep rupture properties of type 316 weld metals are studied. Metallographic and fractographic investigations are performed on specially-prepared weld specimens at high temperature levels to determine the induced microstructural changes, creep damage and fracture behavior. The measured data is then compared with those obtained for the base metal. Results reveal that the rupture life of the weld specimens are lower than that of the base metal at all stress and temperature levels.

Thermal loading of duplex steels
Article Abstract:
The study is conducted on the duplex steel containing nitrogen, including experimental and theoretical analyses at microscopic and macroscopic levels. The thermomechanical behavior of duplex steels and the effect their microstructures takes, were analyzed using theoretical estimates and numerical 2d and 3d finite-element models based on the representative volume element (RVE) concept.
