Seals and packing
Article Abstract:
Research in the field of sealing and packing technology reveals the high feasibility of asbestos substitution technique. White asbestos or chrysolite serves as an efficacious packaging and sealing material due to its absorptive potential for resin aggregates, elastomers and mineral oils. Other materials used for sealing and packaging are elastomers, arlon and perfluororubber. Health hazards due to emissions from bioreactors or industrial production sites of fluid seals are a matter of global concern. Double seal technology includes addition of a barrier of non-hazardous liquid layer affecting the separation between the pumped liquid and the atmosphere. This helps in achieving emission control.

No tree will grow ... the UK needs to improve its manufacturing performance if industry is to ride out the recession
Article Abstract:
Benchmarking exercises are needed to monitor the true performance of companies in the manufacturing industries. These exercises could measure the performances of a large number of companies or a more detailed investigation of a small number of companies. A study of nine UK and nine Japanese automotive component manufacturing plants found that the Japanese plants outperformed the UK equivalents in many areas including quality and productivity.
