Seeing the forest for the trees: biologists crane to see the canopy
Article Abstract:
The Wind River Canopy Crane, located in Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington, allows biological researchers to study the canopy area defined by a six-acre plot with more than 1,000 trees. Data from the Wind River site is expected to contribute to the formulation of a forest management plan.

Getting the goats

The US Park Service plans to exterminate goats that are destroying the alpine ecosystems of the Olympic Peninsula. Sterilization efforts have failed to curb the population growth of the goats, which were introduced to the peninsula in the 1920s.
