Dam breaching: the rest of the story
Article Abstract:
The US Army Corps of Engineers is analyzing the permanent evacuation of the four reservoirs in Snake River by controlled dam breaching to restore the endangered and threatened salmon stocks in the Columbia and Snake River basins. The Corps is designing a plan to support the safest and most effective way of removing the structures without affecting salmon migration. Some of the concerns facing the Corps include water routing, infrastructure stability and poor channel configuration.

Rock dam revitalization
Article Abstract:
Low, arch shaped, natural rock V-dams are proving to be a viable solution for rehabilitating waterways that have been altered or damaged by human intervention. These V dams restore the waterways and their ecosystems back to a condition that is as close to a natural state as possible. Such structures helped Longmont, CO, convert a breached concrete dam that was both a safety hazard and an eyesore into a geologically stable and environmentally healthy area.
