Columbia University seismologists have discovered that the Earth's solid inner core rotates like a giant electric motor. Interaction between the core's electric currents and Earth's magnetic field cause the inner core to rotate about two-thirds of a second faster than the planet.

A number of new and much more powerful microprocessors are being integrated into personal computers. The new microprocessors include Pentium from Intel, Alpha 21064 from Digital Equipment and PowerPC 601 developed by Apple Computer, Motorola and International Business Machines.
